Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently highlighted a pressing concern that could impact the team’s performance this season: fundamental basketball skills. Despite the team’s reputation for dazzling three-point shooting and fast-paced play, Kerr believes that the Warriors’ biggest problem lies in the basics.

He pointed out that while the Warriors excel in offensive creativity and long-range shooting, their struggles with the fundamentals have been increasingly evident. “We can’t just rely on our shooting to win games,” Kerr said. “Our foundation has to be strong, and right now, we’re not where we need to be in terms of the basics.”
The Warriors’ defense, once a cornerstone of their championship runs, has shown signs of decline. The team’s inability to consistently defend without fouling, protect the paint, and secure rebounds has led to unnecessary losses. Kerr also noted that turnovers have been a recurring issue, with sloppy ball handling and poor decision-making contributing to their woes.
Kerr’s remarks reflect a broader concern about the Warriors’ ability to compete at the highest level. As other teams in the Western Conference continue to improve, the margin for error becomes smaller. “If we want to be in the mix for a title, we have to clean up these areas,” Kerr added.
