Less than a week after losing veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks, the Golden State Warriors have acquired a new talented three-point specialist in Buddy Hield.

The Warriors added Hield via a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal gives Hield two years guaranteed and $21 million—$18 million in the first two years and a $3 million partial guarantee in his third year. Hield will also have a player option on a non-guaranteed fourth year.

In return, Golden State sent the 76ers a 2031 second-round pick.

Before Hield’s contract, the Warriors were $54.954 million above the cap, per Spotrac, and they will now be around $63.954 million over with the addition of Hield’s $9 million next season.

With the addition of Hield, here’s a look at Golden State’s projected depth chart for next year:

PG: Stephen Curry, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, Pat Spencer

SG: Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield

SF: Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Moses Moody, Lindy Waters III

PF: Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Davis

C: Jackson-Davis, Green, Kevon Looney, Quinten Post

The Warriors’ roster is pretty versatile, so several players will likely shift positions based on the lineup Steve Kerr wants to go with. As it has done in the past, Golden State could shift Green up to center to play more of a small-ball lineup or move Jackson-Davis down to power forward for a bigger lineup.

It’s hard to say whether the Warriors have improved much this offseason, but it’s also hard to argue that they’ve gotten much worse. They lost one of the best shooters the NBA has ever seen in Thompson, but adding Hield means Curry will still have another option to knock down threes when needed.

Hield is a 40 percent career three-point shooter and shot 38.9 from distance last year. He also has the 10th-most three-pointers made among active players, only behind a handful of players that have been in the league for 15+ years.

As ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted, Golden State also got Hield at a good value.

After making deals for Hield and Kyle Anderson, the Warriors might not yet be finished bolstering their roster this offseason. Golden State is reportedly eyeing Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen, who could be the piece needed to get back into the playoffs.

The Warriors are coming off a 46-36 season that saw them miss the postseason for just the third time since 2013. With Curry now in the latter half of his illustrious career, Golden State is hoping to get one last title push in before his time in the league is over.
