Kyle McCord five interception, three pick-6 night ends by inexplicably sacking himself

Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord had a night to forget with the Syracuse Orange on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

McCord has been solid for Syracuse since transferring to the Orange, leading them to a 5-1 record heading into Thursday’s ACC battle, but he was humbled a bit by the Panthers, throwing five interceptions, with three of them being returned for touchdowns by Pittsburgh. Then, to put the capper on a demoralizing 41-13 loss, McCord sacked himself on his team’s final drive.

Check out the video below, shared to social media by Warren Sharp following the game, where McCord simply falls down and ends his night in embarrassing fashion. The sack actually led to a missed field goal for the Orange, adding insult to injury.

Prior to the game, McCord was turning heads with the Orange, but the general public will continue sleeping on the quarterback’s play if he’s going to perform like he did against Pittsburgh. The Panthers may be undefeated, but it was still an inexplicable performance from the Syracuse signal caller.
McCord matches unenviable Daniel Jones stat

In the process, McCord also matched an unenviable stat from Daniel Jones, as he became the first ACC QB with 300 passing yards & 5 INT’s in a game since the former Duke quarterback in 2016, per Cole Cubelic on X.

Regardless of last night’s performance, McCord and Syracuse will get back on the horse and try to defeat the Virginia Tech Hokies on Nov. 2. It can’t go much worse than Thursday’s game, so the Orange will at least have that working to their advantage.

Then, Syracuse will have a chance to finish their season strong against some stiff ACC competition, but their biggest challenge won’t come until the final week of the regular season, when the Miami Hurricanes come to town.

If Kyle McCord and the Orange can upset Miami and ruin their College Football Playoff dreams, perhaps his five interception performance will feel like a distant memory.
