JUST ANNOUNCED:Ryan Day Hoping to Finalize Ohio State’s Coaching Staff By Early Next Week….
Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is working diligently to finalize his coaching staff, and he’s hoping to have all the pieces in place by early next week. Day, who is entering his fifth season as the Buckeyes’ head coach, has been busy reshaping his staff after a few departures and additions.
“We’re getting close,” Day said in a recent interview. “We’ve had some great conversations with some excellent coaches, and I’m confident that we’ll have our staff finalized by early next week.”
Day’s coaching staff has undergone some significant changes this offseason. The Buckeyes lost defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to Oklahoma State, and they also saw the departure of wide receivers coach Brian Hartline to the NFL.
However, Day has been busy recruiting top coaching talent to Columbus. He’s already hired former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to take over as the Buckeyes’ new defensive coordinator, and he’s also added former NFL coach Keenan McCardell as the team’s new wide receivers coach.
“We’re excited about the additions we’ve made so far,” Day said. “Jesse Minter is a brilliant defensive mind, and Keenan McCardell has a wealth of experience coaching wide receivers in the NFL. We’re confident that they’ll both make a big impact on our program.”
Day is still looking to fill a few more positions on his staff, including a new linebackers coach and a new special teams coordinator. He’s been conducting interviews and having conversations with various candidates, and he’s hoping to have all the pieces in place soon.
“We’re taking our time to make sure we get the right people in place,” Day said. “We’re not just looking for coaches who can X’s and O’s; we’re looking for people who can develop our players, both on and off the field. We’re confident that we’ll find the right people to help us achieve our goals.”
The Buckeyes are coming off a 12-1 season in 2023, and they’re expected to be one of the top contenders for the national championship again in 2024. With a talented roster and a strong coaching staff, Ohio State is poised to make another deep run in the playoffs.
