Three Tennessee Football players make Pro Football Focus Top 101 ranking…
Pro Football Focus (PFF) has released its annual Top 101 ranking, and three Tennessee football players have made the cut. The Volunteers’ representatives on the list are a testament to the program’s growing strength and talent.
Leading the way for Tennessee is defensive back Trevon Flowers, who checks in at No. 34 on the list. Flowers, a senior from Atlanta, Georgia, had a breakout season in 2022, earning First-Team All-SEC honors and being named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He allowed just 25 receptions on 51 targets, with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
“Trevon Flowers is one of the most underrated defensive backs in the country,” said PFF analyst Anthony Treash. “He’s a lockdown corner who excels in man-to-man coverage and has the ball skills to make plays on the ball.”
Next up for Tennessee is wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who comes in at No. 64 on the list. Hyatt, a junior from Irmo, South Carolina, had a monster season in 2022, hauling in 67 receptions for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. He earned First-Team All-SEC honors and was named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award.
“Jalin Hyatt is a big-play receiver who can take the top off a defense,” said Treash. “He’s got elite speed and ball skills, and he’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball.”
Rounding out the Tennessee trio is defensive lineman Byron Young, who checks in at No. 91 on the list. Young, a senior from Georgetown, South Carolina, had a strong season in 2022, recording 46 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. He earned Second-Team All-SEC honors and was named a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy.
“Byron Young is a physical defensive lineman who can play both inside and outside,” said Treash. “He’s got a strong anchor and can hold his own against the run, and he’s also got the quickness and agility to rush the passer.”
