The Tennessee Vols could be the unfortunate loser in the aftermath of Florida’s win over Auburn. The Gators’ 24-13 victory over the Tigers on Saturday has significant implications for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) East division, and the Vols could be the ones who suffer the most.
With the win, Florida improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, while Auburn fell to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Gators’ victory also gave them a crucial head-to-head win over the Tigers, which could prove to be a tiebreaker in the division standings.
The Vols, who are currently 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC, are still very much alive in the division title hunt. However, their chances of winning the SEC East just got a lot more complicated.
With Florida’s win over Auburn, the Gators now control their own destiny in the division. If they can win their remaining three conference games, they will win the SEC East title outright. The Vols, on the other hand, need to win their remaining three conference games and hope that Florida loses at least one of its remaining games.
The Vols’ schedule doesn’t get any easier, either. They still have to play at Alabama, at Kentucky, and at home against Missouri. The Crimson Tide are currently ranked No. 1 in the country, and the Wildcats are a tough opponent, especially on the road.
Florida, on the other hand, has a much easier schedule. They still have to play at Vanderbilt, at home against South Carolina, and at home against Florida State. The Commodores are currently 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the SEC, and the Gamecocks are 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
The Seminoles, of course, are a different story. They are currently 4-3
