Alabama’s Next Big Names? 5 Standouts from the 2025 A-Day Spring Game

TUSCALOOSA — The 2025 A-Day spring game gave Alabama fans their first taste of what the post-Nick Saban era looks like under head coach Kalen DeBoer. While the Crimson and White teams squared off in what’s traditionally a lighthearted exhibition, the stakes were anything but low for the players vying for playing time this fall. With roster spots and depth chart positions up for grabs, several young stars and new faces used the opportunity to flash their potential in front of more than 60,000 fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here are five players who made the most of their moment and are giving Alabama fans plenty to be excited about:

1. Julian Sayin, QB
The former five-star quarterback recruit showed why he was one of the most coveted signal-callers in the nation. Sayin played with poise and precision beyond his years, finishing 17-of-24 for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns. His chemistry with the receivers stood out, especially on a 45-yard strike down the sideline to wideout Kendrick Law. While returning starter Jalen Milroe is still expected to lead the offense this fall, Sayin’s performance puts him firmly in the conversation as a legitimate option if the Tide need a spark later in the season.

2. Justice Haynes, RB
Haynes continues to look like the next great Alabama running back. The sophomore tailback ran for 96 yards on just 12 carries, including a 37-yard touchdown run that showcased both his burst and balance. With Roydell Williams having declared for the NFL Draft and Jamarion Miller still recovering from injury, Haynes used the spring game to solidify his place atop the depth chart. He runs with power, patience, and enough agility to be a true workhorse for DeBoer’s offense.

3. Caleb Downs, S
After a sensational freshman season, Downs picked up right where he left off. The All-SEC safety recorded an interception and a key pass breakup, showing his elite range and instincts in coverage. But perhaps more impressive was his leadership — barking out pre-snap adjustments and keeping the secondary organized. Downs looks every bit the NFL prospect and defensive anchor Alabama needs heading into a competitive SEC slate.

4. Ryan Williams, WR
Still technically a high school senior until reclassifying earlier this year, Williams dazzled in his first action in crimson. The five-star freshman caught 5 passes for 89 yards, including a toe-tap touchdown grab in the corner of the end zone that had fans on their feet. His route running and explosiveness already look polished, and it’s clear he’ll be a key weapon in the receiving corps, especially with Isaiah Bond transferring and Jermaine Burton off to the NFL.

5. Keon Keeley, EDGE
The Crimson Tide pass rush may have found its next terror off the edge in Keeley. The 6-foot-6 sophomore recorded two sacks and lived in the backfield all afternoon. He’s added muscle to his frame and seems far more comfortable in Kevin Steele’s defensive scheme. With Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell gone, Keeley’s emergence comes at the perfect time for a defense looking to rebuild its front seven.

Final Thoughts
While spring games should always be taken with a grain of salt, the 2025 A-Day game gave Alabama fans a glimpse into the future — and it’s bright. From Sayin’s arm talent to Haynes’ running ability, and Keeley’s pass rush potential, there’s no shortage of talent ready to step into starring roles. As the DeBoer era gains steam, these five players could be the foundation for Alabama’s next championship run.
