Denzel Aberdeen, a pivotal contributor to Florida’s 2025 NCAA championship team, has announced his transfer to the University of Kentucky, marking a significant addition to the Wildcats’ roster for the upcoming season.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard from Orlando, Florida, made his decision public on April 21, just days after entering the transfer portal. Aberdeen’s move keeps him within the Southeastern Conference (SEC), transitioning from the Gators to the Wildcats.
During the 2024–25 season, Aberdeen achieved career highs, averaging 7.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 39 games, including five starts. His performance was instrumental in Florida’s championship run, notably contributing seven points and two rebounds in the Gators’ narrow 65–63 victory over Houston in the NCAA title game on April 7.
Aberdeen’s scoring prowess was evident with standout performances, including a career-high 22 points against South Carolina and a 20-point game versus Mississippi State. His ability to play multiple positions—point guard, shooting guard, and small forward—adds versatility to Kentucky’s backcourt.
Kentucky’s head coach, Mark Pope, has been actively reshaping the team’s roster, and Aberdeen’s addition is a strategic move aimed at bolstering the Wildcats’ pursuit of another national championship. With Aberdeen on board, Kentucky’s roster for the 2025–26 season appears to be solidifying, pending the NBA Draft decision of guard Otega Oweh.
