The University of North Carolina (UNC) women’s basketball program has secured a significant addition through the transfer portal, welcoming former UCLA guard Elina Aarnisalo to Chapel Hill. This move bolsters Coach Courtney Banghart’s roster as the Tar Heels prepare for the 2025–26 season.

International Experience Meets NCAA Excellence

Elina Aarnisalo, a 5-foot-10 guard from Helsinki, Finland, brings a wealth of international and collegiate experience. Before her time at UCLA, she played for HBA-Marksy in Finland’s Korisliiga, where she averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. Her impressive performance continued in the Eurocup with Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen in Belgium, posting 12.5 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.7% from the field

At UCLA, Aarnisalo made an immediate impact. She appeared in all 37 games during her freshman season, starting 10, and averaged 5.1 points and 3.4 assists per game. Notably, she recorded a career-high 11 assists in a game against Arkansas and had 12 games with five or more assists
