In a significant development for Kentucky basketball, five-star recruit Jasper Johnson has committed to the Wildcats, choosing them over top programs like North Carolina, Alabama, and Louisville. The 6-foot-4 point guard from Woodford County, Kentucky, is ranked No. 13 nationally in the 2025 class by ESPN. His decision marks a major win for head coach Mark Pope, who is building a formidable recruiting class.
Johnson’s commitment follows that of four-star center Malachi Moreno, who also pledged to Kentucky earlier. Together, they elevate the Wildcats’ 2025 class to No. 2 nationally, according to CBS Sports. Johnson, a left-handed guard known for his scoring ability, spent his junior year at Link Academy in Missouri before transferring to Overtime Elite for his senior season. His decision to stay in-state is seen as a strong statement of loyalty and pride.
This commitment is part of a broader trend under Coach Pope, who has successfully flipped Collin Chandler from BYU to Kentucky. Chandler, a 6-foot-4 combo guard and former Utah Gatorade Player of the Year, initially committed to BYU but reversed his decision after Pope’s move to Kentucky. His flip adds another talented guard to the Wildcats’ roster.
With these additions, Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the most impressive in recent memory, signaling a bright future for the program under Coach Pope’s leadership.
