The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team has added a significant matchup to its preseason schedule, announcing an exhibition game against the Georgetown Hoyas on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The game will take place at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, as part of the Wildcats’ 2025-26 season preparations. ([SI][1], [kentucky.com][2])

This exhibition is made possible by newly adopted NCAA rules permitting Division I programs to play preseason games against each other. As such, the contest will not count towards official records or statistics. ([UK Athletics][3], [https://www.wymt.com][4])

Georgetown, under the leadership of head coach Ed Cooley in his third season, has shown marked improvement. After a 9-23 record in his first year, the Hoyas finished the 2024-25 season with an 18-16 overall record and an 8-12 mark in BIG EAST play. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the inaugural College Basketball Crown, a single-elimination 16-team postseason tournament. ([A Sea Of Blue][5], [Georgetown University Athletics][6])

Key returnee for Georgetown is junior guard Malik Mack, who started all 32 games he appeared in last season. Mack led the team with 12.9 points per game, made a team-high 59 three-pointers, and connected at a 35.5% rate from beyond the arc. ([A Sea Of Blue][5], [https://www.wymt.com][4])

Kentucky, led by head coach Mark Pope, is coming off a 24-12 season that included a 10-8 record in SEC play and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The Wildcats return key contributors such as Collin Chandler, Brandon Garrison, and Trent Noah. Chandler notably shot 52.2% from three-point range over his final six games, all against NCAA Tournament teams. Garrison contributed seven double-figure scoring efforts and shot 50.9% from the field, while Noah had a standout performance with 11 points in an upset over No. 5 Tennessee. The Wildcats have also bolstered their roster with a highly ranked transfer class, including Denzel Aberdeen from Florida, Mouhamed Dioubate from Alabama, Jaland Lowe from Pittsburgh, Reece Potter from Miami (Ohio), Jayden Quaintance from Arizona State, and Kam Williams from Tulane. These additions are expected to enhance Kentucky’s depth and competitiveness for the upcoming season. ([UK Athletics][3])

This exhibition game against Georgetown adds to Kentucky’s challenging non-conference schedule, which already includes a home exhibition against Purdue on October 24. The Wildcats will also face Louisville on November 11, Michigan State on November 18 in the Champions Classic, Gonzaga on December 5 in Nashville, Indiana on December 13, and St. John’s on December 20 in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta.
