“Oklahoma Sooners Softball Stages Thrilling Ninth-Inning Comeback as Clutch Grand Slam Powers No. 2 OU Past San Diego State in Extra-Inning Showdown, Overcoming Early Deficit to Secure Another Gritty Victory Under the Bright Lights”…….
The Oklahoma Sooners softball team staged a thrilling ninth-inning comeback, capped off by a clutch grand slam, to power past the San Diego State Aztecs in an extra-inning showdown. The No. 2-ranked Sooners overcame an early deficit to secure another gritty victory under the bright lights.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading runs and playing tenacious defense. San Diego State jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Sooners were quick to respond, scoring a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit in half.
The Aztecs added another run in the top of the third inning, but the Sooners continued to fight back. They scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning, when San Diego State scored a run to take a 4-3 lead. However, the Sooners were not ready to give up. They loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, setting the stage for a dramatic comeback.
That’s when Oklahoma’s Kinzie Hansen stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch grand slam, giving the Sooners a 7-4 lead and securing the victory.
“I’m just so proud of our team for never giving up,” said Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso. “We’ve been in tough situations before, and we’ve always come out on top. Today was no exception. Kinzie’s grand slam was the icing on the cake, but it was a total team effort.”
Hansen’s grand slam was her second home run of the game, and it capped off an impressive performance by the Sooners’ offense. Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
The Sooners’ victory was also a testament to their tenacious defense. Oklahoma’s pitcher, Jordy Bahl, threw a complete game, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters.
“Jordy was fantastic today,” said Gasso. “She’s been pitching like this all season, and it’s great to see her get the win. Our defense was also solid, making some big plays to help us get the victory.”
