FOUR-STAR EDGE DANIEL NORMAN COMMITS TO OKLAHOMA, SHARES WILD STORY BEHIND HIS DECISION
Buckle up, Sooner Nation — we’ve got a big one.
Four-star EDGE rusher Daniel Norman just dropped a bombshell, and OU fans everywhere are grinning from ear to ear. The explosive defensive standout officially committed to the University of Oklahoma, and the way he tells it, the road to Norman (no pun intended) was anything but ordinary.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound monster off the edge made his announcement on Monday, sending shockwaves through the college football world. Rated one of the top EDGE prospects in the nation, Norman had offers from all over — Bama, Georgia, LSU, you name it. But in the end, it was Brent Venables and the Sooners who won him over.
And the story behind it? Man, it’s straight-up wild.
“I Wasn’t Even Thinking OU…”
“I’m gonna be real with y’all,” Norman said in an exclusive interview. “Oklahoma wasn’t even on my radar at first. I was dead set on heading to the SEC, like most of my boys. Bama was calling, Florida was heavy on me, even USC was tryna get me to fly out. OU? I mean, I knew they were good, but they weren’t on my mind like that.”
That all changed after a late-night conversation with his uncle, who just so happens to be a diehard Sooner fan.
“He was like, ‘Nephew, I need you to do me one favor. Just visit Norman. That’s all I ask,’” Norman laughed. “At first I was like, ‘Man, I don’t know…’ but he kept pushin’ me. So I went.”
What happened next turned everything on its head.
A Visit That Changed Everything
Norman showed up on campus expecting a typical recruiting trip — meet the coaches, check out the facilities, maybe grab a bite or two. But the vibe at OU hit different.
“The energy was insane. Coach V? That dude is real. He didn’t sugarcoat nothing. He told me straight up how I’d fit in the scheme, what I needed to work on, and how he’d push me every single day,” Norman said. “I respect that. A lot of coaches be tellin’ you what you wanna hear. Not him.”
Norman also got to link up with some of OU’s current players — and that sealed the deal.
“Those dudes are hungry. They got that dawg in ’em. We chopped it up, and they told me it’s more than just football here. It’s about building something real, something legendary. I felt that.”
The “Sign” That Sealed It
Now here’s where the story gets crazy.
After the visit, Norman says he was still torn. He liked OU, but he didn’t want to rush the decision. So he prayed on it.
“I swear to God, the next morning I woke up and turned on the TV — and guess what was on? An old OU game. Like, from years ago. No reason for it to be on, but there it was. Baker Mayfield doing his thing. I took that as a sign.”
Later that day, he ran into a random guy at the airport wearing an “Oklahoma Sooners” hoodie.
“Dude didn’t even recognize me. Just smiled and said, ‘Boomer Sooner.’ I was like, ‘Aight, universe. I hear you.’”
Big Things Ahead in Norman (Again, No Pun Intended)
Now that he’s locked in, Norman is ready to get to work.
“I’m not just tryna be another dude on the roster. I’m coming to make noise. I wanna be the guy offenses game-plan around,” he said. “We’re bringing that natty to Norman. Believe that.”
Sooner fans have every reason to be hype. With Daniel Norman in the mix, Oklahoma’s defense just added a certified beast with a motor that doesn’t quit.
And if the journey to get here is any clue, the next chapter is gonna be just as epic.
Boomer Sooner, y’all.
