Trooper Kevin Vasquez, 25, Dies After Being Struck While Investigating Crash
The law enforcement community is mourning the loss of Trooper Kevin Vasquez, a 25-year-old state trooper who tragically passed away after being struck by a vehicle while investigating a traffic crash. The incident occurred on the evening of September 28, when Trooper Vasquez was on duty at the scene of a traffic accident along Interstate 75.
According to preliminary reports, Vasquez was conducting an investigation into the crash when an approaching vehicle lost control and veered off the road, hitting him. Despite the presence of warning signs and emergency lights, the vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. Vasquez sustained critical injuries as a result of the impact.
Emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene and provided immediate medical attention. Trooper Vasquez was airlifted to the nearest trauma center, where doctors fought tirelessly to save his life. However, despite their best efforts, Vasquez succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
Trooper Vasquez had served with the state patrol for three years and was described by colleagues as a dedicated officer with a passion for public service. “Kevin was one of the most hardworking, driven officers we had,” said Captain Thomas Riley, his commanding officer. “He was committed to protecting others, and this loss is deeply felt by all of us in the department.”
Born and raised in the local community, Vasquez had always dreamed of serving as a law enforcement officer. He graduated from the state police academy with honors and quickly became known for his positive attitude and strong work ethic. Friends and fellow officers remember him as someone who always had a smile on his face and went out of his way to help others.
Trooper Vasquez’s untimely death has left his family, friends, and fellow officers devastated. He is survived by his parents and two younger siblings. A memorial service is being planned, and the state patrol has announced that Vasquez will be honored with a full police funeral. In his memory, his department is reminding motorists to slow down and remain vigilant when approaching accident scenes or emergency vehicles on the roadside.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and charges against the driver involved are pending.
