BRONCO MENDENHALL RETURNS TO BYU AS NEW BENCH COACH, PROMISES TO BRING EXPERIENCE AND LEADERSHIP TO THE PROGRAM
Provo, UT – In a move that is set to send shockwaves throughout the college football world, former BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall has announced his return to the Cougars as the team’s new bench coach. Mendenhall, who led BYU to a 99-42 record and 11 bowl appearances during his 11-year tenure as head coach, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the program.
“I’m thrilled to be back at BYU and to have the opportunity to work with the coaching staff and players,” Mendenhall said. “I’m excited to contribute my experience and expertise to the program and to help the team achieve success.”
Mendenhall’s return to BYU is seen as a major coup for the program, which has been looking to bolster its coaching staff. As bench coach, Mendenhall will work closely with head coach Kalani Sitake and the rest of the coaching staff to develop game plans, make in-game adjustments, and provide guidance to the players.
“Bronco is a highly respected coach who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program,” Sitake said. “I’m excited to have him on our staff and to work with him to build a championship-caliber team.”
Mendenhall’s return to BYU is also seen as a homecoming of sorts for the veteran coach. Mendenhall played for the Cougars from 1985-1986 and later served as an assistant coach under legendary coach LaVell Edwards. During his time as head coach, Mendenhall led the Cougars to several successful seasons, including a 14-1 record in 2009.
“I’m grateful to be back at BYU and to have the opportunity to contribute to the program’s success,” Mendenhall said. “I’m excited to work with the players and coaches and to help build a winning culture.”
WHAT’S NEXT FOR BRONCO MENDENHALL AND BYU?
– Mendenhall will begin working with the coaching staff and players immediately, helping to develop game plans and make in-game adjustments.
– The Cougars will look to build on their success from last season, which saw them finish with a 7-6 record and a bowl victory.
– With Mendenhall’s experience and leadership, BYU is expected to be a major player in the Mountain West Conference this season.
