The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team has bolstered its roster with the addition of standout forward Amiya Joyner, who is transferring from East Carolina University. The 6-foot-2 junior brings a formidable presence to the court, having averaged 15.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during her tenure with the Pirates.
Joyner’s impact at East Carolina was profound. In the 2024–25 season, she led the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in rebounding, averaging nearly 10 boards per game, and was the first ECU player to achieve this feat since 1999. Her defensive prowess was evident as she recorded multiple games with double-digit rebounds and contributed significantly to the team’s defensive statistics. Notably, Joyner set a program record with nine consecutive double-doubles from February 10 to March 12, showcasing her consistency and dominance on the court
Her performances earned her multiple accolades, including being named AAC Player of the Week and Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week. In a standout week, she averaged 21.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, leading the Pirates to victories over Hampton and Old Dominion. Her game-winning layup against Old Dominion in overtime highlighted her clutch performance under pressure
Joyner’s decision to join LSU aligns with the Tigers’ strategy to strengthen their frontcourt. Her ability to score efficiently, rebound tenaciously, and defend effectively makes her a valuable asset to the team. With LSU aiming to maintain its competitive edge in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Joyner’s addition is expected to contribute significantly to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
As Joyner transitions to LSU, her experience and skill set are anticipated to make an immediate impact. Her track record of consistent performance and leadership on the court positions her as a key player to watch in the SEC. The Tigers and their fans eagerly await her contributions to the team’s pursuit of excellence in the forthcoming season.
