Curtis Jones: Inter’s Starting Price Half of Liverpool’s Valuation as Transfer Talks Continue
Liverpool and Inter Milan remain locked in negotiations over a potential summer transfer for midfielder Curtis Jones, but a significant gap in valuation continues to stand between the two clubs.
According to multiple reports, the Serie A champions have identified Jones as one of their priority midfield targets and have maintained contact with Liverpool after initially exploring a deal earlier in the year. However, while discussions are ongoing, an agreement remains some distance away due to differing expectations over the transfer fee.
Inter’s opening valuation is believed to be around €20 million, a figure that Liverpool consider far below the midfielder’s worth. Reports suggest the Reds are seeking approximately €40 million (around £35 million), meaning the Italian club’s current offer is effectively only half of Liverpool’s asking price.
The situation has developed into one of the most closely watched transfer stories involving Liverpool this summer. Jones, now 25, has been a key academy success story for the club, making more than 220 senior appearances since breaking into the first team in 2019. Despite his strong connection to Liverpool and his status as a homegrown player, uncertainty surrounding his contract situation has increased speculation about a possible departure.
Inter’s interest is far from new. The Italian giants were heavily linked with the England international during the January transfer window and have continued monitoring his situation ever since. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Jones remains at the top of Inter’s midfield shortlist, underlining the club’s determination to bring him to San Siro.
For Liverpool, the decision is complicated. Jones remains a valuable squad member and provides versatility across midfield positions. Earlier this season, manager Arne Slot praised the midfielder’s influence during an important run of results, highlighting his performances and consistency when fit.
Yet with Jones entering the final year of his contract, Liverpool face the prospect of either securing a substantial transfer fee this summer or risking his market value declining further. The club’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Richard Hughes, is understood to be determined not to sell below their valuation.
Inter, meanwhile, are expected to continue negotiations rather than walk away from the deal. The Serie A champions view Jones as a player capable of strengthening their midfield for both domestic and European competition. Sources in Italy believe the club could return with an improved proposal if talks progress positively over the coming weeks.
There has also been speculation that discussions between the clubs could eventually involve other players, including Inter full-back Denzel Dumfries, although no formal agreement on such a structure has been reported.
As things stand, the transfer remains alive but unresolved. Inter have made their interest clear, Jones is reportedly open to the move, and Liverpool are willing to negotiate. The major obstacle is financial: Inter’s current valuation sits around €20 million, while Liverpool continue to hold out for roughly double that amount. Until one side shifts its position, talks are expected to continue without a breakthrough.
With the summer transfer window gathering momentum, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether Jones remains at Anfield or begins a new chapter in Italy with Inter Milan.
