2025 DB Josh Johnson Decommits From Louisville, Flips Commitment to Alabama Crimson Tide.

The recruitment landscape has shifted once again as 2025 defensive back Josh Johnson decommitted from Louisville  and announced his decision to flip his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The highly touted prospect, known for his physicality and elite coverage skills, had initially pledged to Louisville, but after continued interest from top programs, Johnson ultimately decided that Alabama was the right fit for his future.

Standing at 6 feet, 1 inch and weighing in at 190 pounds, Johnson is regarded as one of the premier defensive backs in the 2025 recruiting class. His combination of size, speed, and football IQ has drawn interest from many powerhouse programs, but Alabama’s storied reputation for developing NFL-ready defensive backs clearly played a key role in his decision to flip his commitment.

In his announcement, Johnson thanked Louisville’s coaching staff for the opportunity, expressing gratitude for the relationships he built during his recruitment process with the Cardinals. However, he also cited Alabama’s winning culture and consistent development of elite defensive talent as major factors in his change of heart.

“After a lot of thought and conversations with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from Louisville and flip my commitment to the University of Alabama,” Johnson said in his official statement. “I have nothing but respect for the Louisville coaching staff, but I feel like Alabama is the best place for me to grow as a player and a person.”

For Nick Saban and the Alabama coaching staff, landing Johnson is a significant victory in their continued quest to reload their defensive backfield with top-tier talent. The Tide have long been known for their ability to churn out NFL-ready defensive backs, and Johnson appears to be another future star who could thrive in their system.

Louisville, meanwhile, will need to rebound from this loss as they continue to build their 2025 class. While losing a talent like Johnson is a setback, the Cardinals are expected to remain aggressive in their recruiting efforts to bolster their defense.

With his commitment to Alabama, Josh Johnson will now join one of the most competitive programs in college football, and he will look to make an impact early in his college career.
